Family Engagement Program

PVD Promise believes strongly in the power of family engagement, and that families are our best allies in the work to improve the future educational and professional success of our children. Family engagement is based on the idea that parents and others who care for their children work together creating a partnership to prepare children for success.

Our Family Engagement Program includes:

  • An active member-led Parent Council

  • An Elementary Scholars Council for elementary-aged youth, serving as a pathway for the middle and high school Youth Council

  • On-going workshops, meetings, and opportunities on a range of community-responsive topics

  • An annual 529 Day Celebration and Multicultural Night

In 2023, PVD Promise hosted 115 programs, workshops, and events for 2,700 attendees, 82 of which programs were for the Family Engagement Program.

"After learning about Providence Promise, I thought it was too good to be true. I decided to dig into it a little more and realized this IS real... an actual incentives program in Providence dedicated to our children. Providence Promise provides an amazing way to save money for college without any hidden agendas, just pure support. Being a former student of Providence Public Schools gave me the motivation to be a helping hand when needed, therefore I decided to express my interest in becoming a parent co-chair. I'm super honored to be a part of such a great organization and am looking forward to all the accomplishments to come within our community."

Early Scholarship Program

The Early Scholarship Program is PVD Promise's largest and fastest growing program, awarding more than $575,000 directly to students' CSAs since 2020. This program supports families in growing their college savings by providing an initial $100 seed deposit upon enrollment and hundreds of additional opportunities to earn "Early Scholarship Incentives". Students and their parents/guardians can participate in hundreds of incentivized activities, such as completing a book report, attending a PTO meeting, participating in an after-school club or activity, accomplishing an academic goal, and more. PVD Promise incentivizes participation in its programming, as well.

The purpose of this program is to:

  1. Encourage participation in positive academic and extracurricular opportunities for both Providence Promise families and students;

  2. Partner with families to assist them in building assets in their 529 College Savings Accounts; and

  3. Build a college-going culture within the enrolled families as well as within the Providence Public School system and the community as a whole.
