Our Impact
Our initiatives focuses on early financial empowerment for students, equipping them with essential skills for continued educational success. We actively engage families and the broader community, fostering a supportive environment that encourages growth and collaboration. By prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion, we ensure that individuals from a wide demographic can thrive and contribute to a vibrant community. Together, we are building a brighter future for all.

The Challenge
Broadly, Providence Promise offers a sustainable and accessible solution to the growing college affordability crisis, particularly for students from historically underserved communities, while also promoting economic prosperity for families.
Theory of Change
Offering equitable and high-quality opportunities for early financial empowerment, family engagement, and youth mentorship will disrupt historically oppressive systems and support a culture of educational and economic prosperity within enrolled students, their families, and the Providence community.

Early Financial Empowerment
PVD Promise is committed to helping families prepare for their children's educational futures by promoting long-term savings through 529 College Savings Accounts (CSAs). Every enrolled student has savings set aside for higher education, with families making consistent contributions. The program's success is reflected in its high engagement rate, financial literacy workshops for both youth and adults, and substantial incentive awards provided directly to CSAs. Through these efforts, PVD Promise empowers families to actively save and plan for the cost of education, ensuring that students have a solid financial foundation as they grow.

Family & Youth Engagement
PVD Promise places a strong emphasis on family and youth engagement, hosting a variety of workshops, programs, and events that reach thousands of participants annually. Over the past year, the organization offered 110 programs, with a significant portion developed in collaboration with community partners. These efforts help to build a supportive network that encourages families to stay engaged and invested in their children's educational journeys, while strengthening ties between the program and the broader community. Meanwhile, youth engage in frequent college and career readiness activities well before the 11th grade (the age in which most interventions are offered locally) that prepare them for their futures. Notably, the Youth Mentorship Program provides individualized college and career coaching to enrolled middle and high school students from current college student mentors. Pairs meet at least twice per month, follow a thoughtfully-designed curriculum with guides activities and topics, and have at least one on-site college visit.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
PVD Promise is committed to serving a diverse community, ensuring that its programs are accessible and inclusive for all families. The organization offers interpretation and translation services to meet the language needs of its enrolled families, fostering clear communication and effective support. PVD Promise also tailors its program delivery models to best fit the unique needs of the community, ensuring flexibility and accessibility. Reflecting the diversity of the families it serves, PVD Promise maintains a staff and board that are representative of the community, reinforcing its commitment to equitable and inclusive service.

Partnerships
PVD Promise works with community partners throughout Providence to provide supplemental programming and resources to its families and students. One of PVD Promise’s foundational principles is to foster an increase in community partnerships to avoid service replication. We are able to achieve that through collaboration with various community organizations and provide a number of accessible, bilingual workshops for our students and families. Check out a listing of our formal partners for which we maintain MOUs with below (updated April 2026).
PVD Promise collaborates with several other community based organizations and financial institutions throughout the City and State. As we grow, we look forward to partnering with other local entities to bring additional services to Providence families.
